What Does Stealing Glances Mean?
A not so typical piece I am about to write. Why does stealing glances feel illegal? It’s not the truth when you say ‘I have never done that’ because you are a human and we all have done it at one point or the other. Some of us do that more often than others, but nonetheless, everyone does that!
We steal glances all the time. Don’t we? Well, at least those of us who are too afraid to have eye contact because apparently we want to maintain that image of ‘I don’t really care how beautiful you look’ But then again, stealing glances feel Illegal on so many levels. There are a few things that we generally feel while we are trying to be subtle while looking at someone.
A- We are afraid that the people around us will know what we are doing and that makes it so hard for us to look at them every once in a while.
B- We fear that the person we are looking at every now and then will know what we are doing and it will be so awkward, especially if you know the person in a personal capacity.
C- Because we cannot just look at them and ignore people’s eyes on us, we roam our eyes around and sometimes someone is already looking at us. Thus, it gets way too awkward and complicated.
While we do want to keep looking at them every now and then we also don’t want them to find out, yet secretly wishing they look at us every once in a while too? I mean this can get very complicated because you want the person to know yet you don’t want them to find out?
And, before you all think about every possibility of the person I am talking about here, because apparently you all think whatever I write is from personal experience, let me tell you something. It’s not always necessary to steal glances and look subtly at the opposite gender. It’s not always about a crush, or infatuation or love. Sometimes it’s about admiration. Sometimes it’s about someone from your gender with such an aura that you cannot stop yourself from looking at them every once in a while.
Stealing glances is not always about the opposite gender. About someone you are attracted towards. Most of the times I am looking at a woman in front of me who is admirable. Someone who has the spark and who literally feels like sunshine. But that doesn’t mean I have never done that on my crushes because well, I am a damn girl and I am human so it’s both natural and possible to do that.
