What is Wrong With Our Society?!?!

And by society, I mean the Pakistani community, with all the diverse ethnic backgrounds and religions. By society, I mean all the genders without leaving anyone out. Because what I want to write about is something that concerns everyone. I guess it should. I mean it is something we need in order to rid this place of so many evils.

I saw a picture online and to be very honest I didn’t feel angry after reading the caption, I felt pity. Pity on our people, even on me. Because even after reading this, if you still go by the concept of that picture, half of you will be declaring it rubbish.

And I get it because trust me I would have done the same a few years back. It is a training we all are given as we grow up. Anyways, the caption was

“I realized this after watching Gangu Bai. A woman, no matter what she is doing and where she is in life, can rule the world only if she has a loyal man behind her.”

The statement is wrong on so many levels. Yes, you can call me a Sasti Feminist all you want but I am sorry I cannot say that yeah the statement is true just to please you or fit in the society (I am a Ravian bro, and that too from the department of English so I am already a sasti feminist to most of you anyways!!)

The statement can be true if you remove the ONLY IF. What this statement is explaining to me is that whoever wrote this is a sexist and a patriarch and trust me I have seen women equally sexist and patriarch as men. Anyways, well let’s break down the statement.

The movie Gangu Bai is a total Feminist movie. It’s all about the struggles of a woman, who did everything in her power to make things right for other women as well. I don’t watch Bollywood anymore but that movie was something I feel like everyone should watch, (except for those who are going to complain that it is promoting the profession of prostitution.) Thanks to my sister I watched it because I learned a lot so let’s get down to why I have problems with this statement.

A woman can achieve anything and everything with or without people by her side. and I am writing the word people here which means it is not conformed to any gender right now.

I have two personal examples and I want to tell the world about it. My grandmother (Dadi) was widowed at a very young age. And despite everything she tried her best to give her children the lives they are enjoying today. So, no thank you I don't agree with your “only if there’s a man” statement.

My grandmother (nano) built her house while my grandfather was out of the country. She used to stand in the scorching heat of the day and see everything alone. Yes, my nana was supporting her financially obviously because it was his house as well. But did he stand outside the house to count the bricks or shower them with water each night? No, he did not. It was her all alone who did that.

I am a woman and at the age of Twenty-three, I have a lot of things I never dreamed of having in the first place. Now, I didn’t achieve it all alone. Yes, my father and mother are the reason I am where I am today so no it’s not only that there was a man behind my back that I am here today.

So, before you go on and post things like that on social media, I suggest you look around. You’ll find plenty of examples where women reached heights without A MAN, without anyone by their side.

I have examples of women who struggled alone throughout their lives to provide their families with the peace that they enjoy. But, I have also seen women backed by other men and women who achieved a lot of things.

So, yes they can do it with or without the help of any gender. The only difference I think will be that when you have someone behind your back your mental strain is less. The results can be received either way!!
